Why We Are Unique
Youth Academy for U7-U9: We have seen that playing traditional, competitive club soccer games has, by its nature, stunted the skill development, learning, and growth of many young soccer players. To address this, we have created an ACADEMY for U7–U9 players that teaches strong fundamental soccer skills, emphasizes group or team play and learning, and de-emphasizes traditional club competition, instead fostering a sustainable competitive spirit.

Competitive for U10 to U18: Skill development at this level builds upon the player’s fundamental skill foundation, and decision-making strategies, tactical awareness, and strong team play are emphasized in a competitive environment where players fully engage in and enjoy competitive club soccer.

College Preparation: Somewhere around the 9th grade, players begin to think about what it will take to get into the college of their choice. Our college preparedness agenda is an integral part of our competitive program. Players are prepared to compete for college placement not only in terms of their athletic development, but also in terms of knowing what the expectations are with regard to grades, community activity, and citizenship.
As players reach the summer before their junior year, they are guided on how to look at a college program, things to watch for, how to send letters to colleges to get noticed, and how to interact with college coaches.

San Diego Spirit Soccer Club is unique because of the way we develop players and the way we go about business:

Decisions: Decisions are made with regard to what is in the best interest of the club first, the team second, and the individual player third. A strong, viable club is the key to strong player development.

Clear Expectations: Guidelines and policies regarding teams will be made clearly available and accessible to every member.

We’re Here Because of the Kids: Our passion is the development and ultimate success of each player—the more support the club receives, the more support players receive.

Synergy Among Coaches:  Our coaches make it a point to know each other’s teams. Through this process, players will benefit from the collective knowledge and skills of all club coaches—not just their assigned coach.

Club Functions: Opportunities and activities for players, parents, and coaches to get together and socialize will occur throughout the year.

Collaboration: Decisions regarding the strategy and direction of the Club are a collaborative effort between the Board and the coaching staff.

Member Forums: Opportunities for player and parent input to the Club will be made available throughout the year.

Accessibility: Coaching Directors, Board members, and coaches are identifiable, accessible, and approachable. Communication will be open and promptly addressed.

We Leave Politics to the Government: Decisions about player placement and team formation are based on player strengths, attitude, and ability to play the game.
